Hope and Hopelessness

When we have hope, it is something that we may not even notice, but it is there in the background and fuels the belief that we have some control over the direction and content of our lives.

When we experience a sense of hopelessness, we realise how important a part it played in our day to day living. We can find ourselves feeling empty, powerless and miserable.

Loss of hope or hopelessness is the primary source of all emotional and psychological suffering. Therefore, the creation of hope is the central aim of all counselling and talking therapies.

We can help you to rediscover what hope means for you, and create a sense of purpose and meaning to support your hopefulness into the future.

Do you feel hopeless?

Hopelessness

Hopelessness is connected to many aspects of how we feel unable to cope with life. It affects our beliefs, our attitudes and can ruin that which we value and have trust in. Hopelessness destroys our motivation, our concentration and leads to a damaged attitude towards our thoughts, bodies, activities and all our relationships.

Having Hope

A hopeful and optimistic orientation cultivates a purposeful approach towards life, allowing us to be pulled forward by our aspirations rather than driven by our fears and failures. Therefore, we maintain that cultivating hope is essential for health, happiness, and wholeness.

Trust

Hope is connected to trust as to have or develop hope we need to have or create a sense of trust in what we are doing or would want to achieve. Hope is both the first and the most important factor involved in a sense of being alive and that life has meaning and worth. For life to be sustained, hope must be a central focus, even when confidence is wounded or trust impaired.

Creating hope

Hope that we can recover and return to living our lives in a meaningful and fulfilling manner is created as we successfully set goals and work hard in counselling to focus upon moving from a position of feeling stuck and hopeless to having a sense of being able to move forward with hope.

How Wellbeing Counselling Works

Counselling and talking therapy is offered in a confidential and compassionate space. More than just listening, we will walk beside you as you explore how to find hope and meaning in your life.

With your therapist, you can spend time understanding the thoughts, beliefs, and values that contribute to your feelings of hopelessness. Once addressed, you can start to work on the aspects that you feel are hindering your sense of hope.

We will work with you to set realistic goals that you want to achieve for your well-being, and over the course of a few weeks, you will see things change.

This process helps you regain a sense of hope and purpose, enabling you to better cope with the inevitable ups and downs of life.

Start today by booking a discovery session to explore how goal-based Wellbeing Counselling can help you feel more hopeful.
