His approach to therapy is integrative, which means that he draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including existential, psychodynamic, compassion-based therapy.
He tailors his approach to the specific needs of each client, and believes that the therapeutic relationship is essential to healing. As a therapist, he believe that many of our problems, such as anxiety, depression, addiction, and difficult relationships, stem from having a difficult relationship with certain aspects of ourselves.
When we dislike parts of ourselves, we may try to hide or ignore them, our internal dialogue often becomes very harsh and critical. This can lead to shame, guilt, and fear, which can have a negative impact on our mental health. He came to counselling after contemplating the different ways in which he could use the knowledge he accumulated over thirty years of learning how the mind works from an Eastern philosophical position, particularly from the point of view of how we find ourselves caught in unhelpful patterns when it comes to how we want to live.
Through practicing and teaching meditation he has learned much about how we can learn to be content and to find stability and clarity in ourselves. Joining this with his training in Western Psychology and Counselling he comes with a unique understand of how to work with our mind and body to attain a healthy sense of ourselves and function well in our relationships, jobs, and social environments.
